A guide to Write Week

The premise of Write Week is very simple, especially if you are familiar with NaNoWriMo or other such initiatives.

Write Week occurs every month, from the 1st to the 7th. Your aim in that week is to start and complete a project of at least 5000 words.

This is a reasonable target, some might even say easy. But unlike NaNoWriMo, the idea of Write Week is not to chug out quantity over quality. The idea is to get you to sit down and write something and to get you thinking about what you're writing.

Write Week should be used for new projects. The reason for this is to stop your brain from getting bogged down by one story. Often, if you've reached a sticking point in a story it's because your brain needs a chance to think of something else, stretch itself in a different direction. Far from distracting you, turning your mind to something else can often help in developing whatever you're stuck in. Taking that step back allows you to get a differet perspective on things.

After each Write Week you have the option of posting you work in the forums here to share with other participants. This is a good opportunity to get some feedback from other authors who understand what you've been doing. You will retain all copyright of your work and TheWriteWeek.com will not make use of your work in any other way.

So, to recap:

When: 1st -7th of every month.

What: Start and complete a new project of at least 5000 words.

Where: Wherever you like, but remember that you can post your work in the forums to show off your achievements.
